Forensic science is an essential part of our criminal justice system. In the laboratory, forensic scientists analyze all sorts of evidence by applying their scientific knowledge to investigate and solve crimes.

We will be featuring two experts in forensic science: Dr. Ira Lurie, a professor from George Washington University, and Mr. Daniel Katz, director of the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Divisions. On Thursday, August 20, 2020, BranchOut! held its 7th career panel this summer and featured individuals in the journalism industry.

 

Our speakers were Trevor Baratko, editor-in-chief of the Loudoun Times-Mirror, Asra Q. Normani, a world-renowned journalist and leader of the Pearl Project, and Jessica Sidman, a food editor at the Washingtonian. 

 

Through this webinar, audiences of all ages learned more about different careers in the journalism field. They also talked about their roles at their respective organization, a typical day in their field, their backgrounds, and much more. Additionally, the audience members got a rare chance to ask questions to the specialists! This career panel is an excellent way for everyone to learn about the journalism industry, which is extremely vast, and a vital part of all our lives with decisions, making it influential on our society today.

BranchOut! held its 6th Career discussion panel at 5:00 pm on August 7, 2020. We featured individuals in the K-12 education industry, specifically with panelists Emily Brown and Sandra Vinje. Ms. Brown is an English teacher at James Madison high school in Fairfax County, Virginia. Mrs. Vinje retired last year after a 26-year career as a middle school science teacher in Howard County, Maryland. Through this webinar, audience members of all ages will be able to learn more about different careers in K-12 education. Our panelists will be talking about their roles at their respective schools, a typical day in their field, their backgrounds, and much more. Ms. Brown also covered how work has changed as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Interested in learning more about the Design Industry? We have invited 3 design experts to share insights on this fascinating career on July 29, 2020.

In this career panel, we are featuring accomplished professionals in the art and design industry, specifically with panelists Robert Braddock, Sumona Banerji, and Ray Martin. Mr. Braddock is a principal at Red House architect. Ms. Banerji is a film editor and alum from George Mason University. Mr. Ray Martin is an visual artist and an art professor, who sees art is a gift of healing. 

 

Through this webinar, audiences of all ages will be able to learn more about different careers in the design industry.

July 24th, 2020 marked out fourth career panel. We invited individuals in Criminal Law, specifically with panelists Ms. Amy Bradley, a senior associate for Briglia Hundley and Mrs. Lisa Man, a Trial Attorney at the United States Department of Justice. Through this webinar, audiences of all ages were able to learn more about the different careers in criminal law.

 

They talked about their roles at their respective organization, a typical day in their field, their backgrounds, and much more. The panelists also covered how work has changed as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, the audience members got a rare chance to ask questions to the specialists, ending the panel with a deeper understanding of the career branch.

Our third career panel was focused on the food industry. Special guests included panelists Rachel Zemser, a food science industry consultant who is a Certified Food Scientist (IFT) and a Certified Culinary Scientist (RCA), Lydia Zhang, Chief of Business Development at Peter Chang, and Aline Kazanjian, a manager representing Les Delices Bakery.

Through this webinar, audiences of all ages were be able to learn more about different careers in the food industry.

 

They talked about their roles at their respective companies, a typical day in their field, their backgrounds, and much more. The panelists also covered how work has changed as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This career panel was an excellent way for everyone to learn about the food industry, which is extremely vast, and a vital part of all our lives with decisions, making it influential on our society today.

Engineering (2)

On July 13th, 2020, the engineering panel was held, and it featured accomplished panelists from different sectors of engineering like an electrical chip engineer at Northrop Grumman, to an engineer from the National Institute of Standards and Technology, to a student at MIT. Students and adults got a chance to learn the everyday life of engineers, as well as the possibilities of the career field like material to chip and mechanical engineering. Additionally, the impact of Covid-19 on these jobs and companies were discussed, and how they are dealing with the issue.  The engineering field is rapidly expanding, and driving the new technology of the 21st century.

We held our first career panel on July 10th, 2020 at 8:00 pm. We were honored to have Ms. Erica Ryan from Fannie Mae and Mr. Spencer Cavelier, an investment banker, as our panelists. They introduced us to the field of economics and took us through the major aspects of the profession. Over 70 students and professionals came and listened in. A special thank you to the panelists and the audience!
