Describe your tutoring experience if you have any:

Besides informally teaching my 11-year-old sister for the majority of her elementary school life, I tutored a third grader for one school year when I was in ninth grade. He was having trouble understanding the content his class was learning, so I focused on explaining what he learned in class in different (and sometimes unconventional) ways. We met for around 45-60 minutes each week, and we focused on finishing his homework as I refreshed his memory on what he had learned in class throughout the week. I also taught four fourth graders during the summer for four days, giving them an introduction to algebra to prepare them for fifth grade. Each lesson was two hours long.

What subjects can you confidently tutor?

Algebra I, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, Spanish, Technology

When will you be able to participate and volunteer in the program?

7/8 - 7/12, 7/22 - 7/26

Cumulative Weighted GPA:

Briefly introduce yourself and explain why you are interested in becoming a mentor for BranchOut!:

Branch Out! is a great program that supports my peers who need help in school and come from different backgrounds, and I would love to have the chance to give them assistance in the subjects I am strong in. Being in the STEM program at Montgomery Blair, I am confident in my abilities to teach math and computer science. I have also taken Spanish for five years; I can help others taking the language. I would like to have the opportunity to volunteer and reach out to students and peers, and I believe that I have the leadership and educational experience to be an effective mentor.
Helping others has always been something that I want to prioritize, whether it’s in the form of community service or in this case, mentoring. Participating in different programs as a leader, counsellor, teacher, and volunteer has given me the opportunity to meet new people and learn things that I would never have encountered on my own. I enjoy expanding my knowledge on how different people live their lives, especially if those customs are different from mine. It helps me understand new perspectives and assess the experiences I go through.
