Describe your tutoring experience if you have any:

I am a tutor at Oakton High School’s Center for Collaborative Learning (also known as The Center), which is a class of tutors who tutor and mentor other students. The Center organizes tutoring sessions so that students can walk in during their study hall period and receive subject matter assistance and support for any subject offered at the school. As a tutor, it is my responsibility to volunteer at The Center on a weekly basis, and participate in Tutor-a-thons on a quarterly basis. During Tutor-a-thons, tutors gather in the cafeteria for three hours straight during after school hours. I primarily tutor students in math subjects up to BC Calculus, science subjects (including AP Chemistry, Physics, and Biology), and Linguistics (including grade level English 9-11, AP Language and Spanish 4). The students I tutor range from 13 to 18 years old (9th-12th grade). During the upcoming 2019-2020 school year, I will be serving as a Scheduling Manager where I will be leading a group of five students along with my tutoring responsibilities.

Briefly introduce yourself and explain why you are interested in becoming a mentor for BranchOut!:

Thanks for considering me to be a mentor for the Branch Out! program. My name is Nabil Habib, and I am a rising senior at Oakton High School for the 2019-2020 school year. I am interested in becoming a mentor for Branch Out! because I want to foster my passion for tutoring, work in an environment where I can improve my collaborative skills, and help students in different age groups. Being part of The Center at Oakton High School’s tutoring team helped me develop a deep satisfaction and enjoyment for helping students out in a subject they may be struggling in and, ultimately, watching them succeed. During the upcoming summer 2019 term, I hope to contribute to the Branch Out! community by working alongside students to expand their scope of knowledge in various subjects, fostering a fun and collaborative environment, and further developing my mentoring skills.
