Describe your tutoring experience if you have any:

Unfortunately, I do not have any official tutoring experiences. However, I often help my peers from my classes in school with materials or concepts they have trouble grasping. With that being said, I've learned practical approaches from my "unofficial " teaching experiences to help my classmates by pinpointing the cause of their confusion and resolving it with methodical explanations. I mostly help my friends with math when they don't understand concepts discussed in class or practice problems they have trouble doing, but I believe I can use the same mindset to teach other subjects as well, just with different methods. I hope I can use BranchOut! to improve my teaching ability and translate my "unofficial " experiences into official tutoring experiences with diverse groups of kids.

What subjects can you confidently tutor?

Algebra I, English/Language Arts, Technology

When will you be able to participate and volunteer in the program?

Cumulative Weighted GPA:

4.01 GPA (College Prep Curriculum)

Briefly introduce yourself and explain why you are interested in becoming a mentor for BranchOut!:

My name is Jerry Ji, and I currently go to the Landon School located in Bethesda, Maryland. Over this upcoming summer, I would like to build up my leadership skills by joining BranchOut! to mentor others in education. I think BranchOut! is an excellent opportunity for me to improve my communication skills and help others at the same time. I believe teaching is a beautiful skill and one that I would like master. Although I do not have any official tutoring experiences, I do often help my friends in school with subjects they struggle in. Because I excel in math more than my other subjects, I frequently explain math concepts to my friends from class when they need help. I do a good job teaching as I resolve their questions with effective ways of explaining and identifying the problem. It makes me happy when I see I have done something beneficial for others. Additionally, I would also like to use this experience to improve my leadership and communication skills by learning more effective ways to mentor various age groups of students and raise awareness for the learning and cultural gaps in society. It would be my pleasure to join BranchOut! to work with students from diverse backgrounds and improve my skills in both teaching and communicating.
