Describe your tutoring experience if you have any:

In 8th grade, I was a founding member of the leadership team for the MakerSpace afterschool program for Rocky Run Middle School. Along with team members, we would help middle school students with their engineering and creative projects as well as advise them on improvements.
For two years now, I’ve been part of the BranchOut! STEM Education Program. I volunteered with a team of mentors at the Patrick Henry Family Shelter and James Lee Community Center to mentor young children (usually elementary school level) on STEM through different activities, including using Scratch to teach programming, boats for buoyancy, and the egg drop for the engineering design process. We created curriculums for them to learn and experience in STEM in interesting and hands-on ways.
I also volunteered for our school, including being personal mentors for MUN and to freshmen and helped freshmen families at orientations. These opportunities allowed me to connect to underclassmen in our school and mentor them on general school affairs as well as MUN improvements.

What subjects can you confidently tutor?

Algebra I, Algebra II, Art, Technology

When will you be able to participate and volunteer in the program?

6/24 - 6/28, 7/1 - 7/5

Cumulative Weighted GPA:

4.064 (Freshman year, some classes are 4.5 weighting)

Briefly introduce yourself and explain why you are interested in becoming a mentor for BranchOut!:

I am currently a sophomore at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. I participate in my school’s Model UN team as well as the tjToday (School newspaper) team. Since the summer before 9th grade, I was involved with Dr. Wu’s BranchOut! education program. This would be my third year applying to be a mentor. I have always been interested in STEM topics and have an excited mindset to bring my skills to help other students in the local communities in learning and expanding their capabilities in STEM. Through the two years I’ve volunteered with students in Falls Church and had really enjoyed the feeling of helping others as well as being able to learn and develop teamworking skills with different people. Because of my experience I am planning on joining the management team if my schedule is cooperative. I believe another year working with BranchOut! would be an even more enriching experience than before.
