Briefly introduce yourself and explain why you are interested in becoming a mentor for BranchOut!:
My name is Emily Chen and I am 15 years old. I am currently a sophomore at McLean High School. I was born in Richmond, VA and raised in Shanghai, China. I moved back to the United States two years ago. In addition to normal high school activities, I enjoy drawing, listening to music and playing piano. There are a few reasons why I am interested in becoming a mentor. First, I have relevant teaching skills from my TA experience at Hope Chinese School which I can take to this BranchOut! Program. Second, I think this is a great opportunity to reach out and have a better understanding of a different and maybe less advantaged group of children. I am looking forward to the opportunity where I can have a positive impact on others through my work. Third, I am hoping to further improve my leadership and communication skills and be able to take them back to my duties as the co-founder of the Asian American Association at McLean High School.
