Describe your tutoring experience if you have any:

From science to math, and reading to writing, I’ve had tutoring experience through school and my job at Kumon. At my high school, Marshall, I am involved in many honors societies including math, science, and national honors society. A requirement for these honors societies is to tutor students within our school twice a quarter. So far, I have tutored freshmen, sophomores, and juniors in math and science. I enjoy tutoring students the subject, but also proving to them that they hold the capacity to excel. I have a job at Kumon in which I tutor students from kindergarten to 12th grade. I tutor the students in math and reading, which includes writing, grammar, science and history. At Kumon, the students are given self learning worksheets and practice, and when they are struggling with a concept I develop ways to help them understand the topic. In eighth grade my teacher nominated me as a tutor to assist her in the classroom during study hall. I worked with various students in my grade on different chapters that we had done in math class.

Briefly introduce yourself and explain why you are interested in becoming a mentor for BranchOut!:

I am a student that is committed to doing the International Baccalaureate Diploma and I strive to balance by academics with extra curricular activities. My two favorite subjects are math and science and I love to tutor in these subjects. My passion for math and science makes me want to correct students that complain math or science is too hard for them. When I tutor I make sure the student knows that they are capable of anything, and I adapt to their learning techniques to teach them in a more effective way. I want to become a tutor at branch out to help students that need it over the summer. I would help the students overcome negative thoughts that tell them they are ‘bad’ at a certain subject and help them achieve their academic goals. As a Branch Out! tutor I would bring my tutoring experience from school and Kumon to help students in need over the summer
