Describe your tutoring experience if you have any:

As a returning member of BranchOut, I've tutored many children ages 7-12 in STEAM. I've tutored these children to specifically enhance their math, reading, and critical thinking skills. Our team of mentors played fun math games and developed hands on projects to engage these students in their learning.

Besides BranchOut, I have tutored several juniors at my high school in BC Calculus. After tests, I help them make test corrections and I go over review problems to prepare them for retakes. I also helped instructors teach tennis to children ages 9-15.

What subjects can you confidently tutor?

Algebra I, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, English/Language Arts

When will you be able to participate and volunteer in the program?

6/24 - 6/28

Cumulative Weighted GPA:

4.6

Briefly introduce yourself and explain why you are interested in becoming a mentor for BranchOut!:

I want to join Branch Out because I love teaching and I want to gain more teaching experience. Before I joined BranchOut, I had never tutored anyone. But this program made me realize how much I loved teaching others. As such, I started helping out tennis instructors teach children at my local Chinese school. Now, I train my teammates as the Oakton tennis team captain.

The second reason I want to join BranchOut is so that I can help the most vulnerable in our community. Joining BranchOut exposed me to some of the most disadvantaged members of our community by tutoring at a homeless shelter. This was the first time I truly interacted with the most vulnerable in our society, given that I live in an incredibly privileged area. A year later, I worked with the Jennifer Wexton Congressional Campaign during the 2018 midterms because she’s committed to create enact policies that works for everyone, not just the privileged. I co founded the Young Democrats Club, which aids local representatives to legislate socially equitable policies. Branch Out inspired me to help these individuals face to face, and I’m looking forward to aiding them again.
